Commissioning Tool
I designed the Commissioning Tool to help field technicians configure, validate, and verify energy devices before leaving the customer site. It standardises how equipment is connected and checked, improves quality control, and reduces installation errors. Here is what changed in practice:

Problem and Research
Through interviews and field observation, I mapped how work actually happened on site, then compared it with the intended process. The differences were clear and consistent across teams.
Field technicians worked long days in shifting site conditions, under pressure to hand over quickly. Slow contact with HQ often left decisions to be made without full context. From these sessions, four recurring challenges stood out:
Inconsistent processes across technicians with no shared workflow.
No on-site validation, so devices were often left unverified.
Manual entry of serials and IDs, which created frequent errors.
No single source of truth or audit trail for completed jobs.
These patterns made the need clear. Field technicians required one guided tool that standardised commissioning and provided real-time feedback. With the right prompts and guardrails, the tool could help teams follow the same steps, catch mistakes early, and leave the site with confidence.
Solution: MVP Commissioning Tool
I partnered with engineering to design a guided commissioning flow that simplified each step and reduced human error. The MVP walked field technicians through scanning, validating, and confirming each device. It included photo capture for evidence, automated checks to catch configuration errors, and clear on-screen feedback when faults occurred.
With a six-week window and no front-end developers, we built the MVP in JavaFX. This choice made deployment simple on technicians’ iPad devices, which let us test quickly in the field, learn from real usage, and iterate based on technician feedback.

Business Impact
Key Learnings
This project reinforced a few habits that keep complex delivery practical and fast.
Start small, validate early, then scale with confidence. It reduces risk and builds trust with real results.
Co-design with engineering to respect constraints and move fast. Shared ownership speeds decisions.
Turn complex data into clear, human experiences. Clarity cuts errors and support load.
Field testing beats lab testing for uncovering real issues. Reality surfaces edge cases quickly.
Solid design foundations speed up future product growth. Reusable patterns compound over time.
