Admin Management Platform
I designed an MVP dashboard that brought our Commissioning and Remote Configuration tools into a centralised, real-time monitoring platform. I enabled the operations team to see device health, activity, latency, installation status, and alerts across the entire network in one place.
Problem and Research
After delivering the Commissioning and Remote Access tools, I ran follow-up interviews with technicians and managers to learn how they performed in the field. Several challenges emerged.
Technician pain points
Inconsistent UX and UI patterns due to rapid implementation and limited front-end resources.
Frequent context switching between two separate tools, with multiple logins that slowed workflows.
Management pain points
Difficulty tracking a growing number of installations and active devices across regions.
Limited visibility into system health, latency, and real-time performance.
Rising operational costs from maintaining two separate tools and infrastructures.
A need for a simple, intuitive interface that could support a wider range of skill levels as the team expanded.
These insights made it clear that we needed a unified, scalable platform that centralised data, improved visibility, and delivered a consistent experience for both technicians and management.
Solution: MVP Admin Management Platform
With dedicated front-end support in place, I partnered closely with engineering to design a skeleton dashboard on top of existing APIs. The focus was turning complex device data into simple, human-readable visualisations that could be understood at a glance.
Key design considerations
Defined a clear information architecture that connected commissioning, configuration, and monitoring in one workflow.
Introduced data visualisation components for device health, connectivity, latency, and alerts.
Unified UI patterns and behaviours from previous tools into one design system for consistency.
Balanced usability and feasibility by aligning designs with API limitations and current infrastructure.
Centralised all tools within a single AWS-hosted environment, reducing fragmentation and operational overhead.

Key Learnings
A unified design system accelerates delivery and preserves long-term consistency.
Data visualisation is most valuable when it is clear, not clever, users want quick insights, not complexity.
Balancing feasibility with usability strengthens trust between design and engineering.
Continuous learning after delivery uncovers real-world opportunities for optimisation.
Centralising platforms reduces cost and improves cross-team collaboration.
